Continuing our series of reviews of the delights you might find in a Changchun convenience store, we have the first product so far that The Bearded Giant heartily wishes was available back home.
Lemon Oreos? Sign me up!
Now, I’ve had the Lemon Twist Oreos available in the States. They come with a yellow cookie instead of the traditional chocolate Oreo cookie. And they’re tasty, don’t get me wrong. But they just feel like an Oreo ripoff of someone else’s lemon creme cookie. These, on the other hand, clearly depict that chocolatey Oreo goodness right there on the box!
Tearing open the box we find two foil pouches. That’s good, because no one would really eat a whole box of these in one sitting, right? Right? Oh, who am I kidding.
Wait a minute… Thin?… Oh, please tell me I didn’t buy some weird “diet” Oreos by mistake with half the calories and a propensity for causing anal leakage. There’s probably some huge warning label on the box in Chinese and I didn’t read it…
Wait, hold on. Those cookies look weird. Lemme look at the box again… Hmmm… They ARE weird. It’s like the chocolate cookie part is only half as thick as normal.
Ripping open the foil reveals that the cookies inside are, indeed, half as thick as normal Oreos. Now, dear reader, this would be a delightful place for The Bearded Giant to include a pic of the Oreos in question. Maybe even a side-by-side with a “regular” Oreo so you could see the thickness difference. But we have a bit of a problem.
See, the cookies in that foil package smelled pretty good. They smelled REALLY good. So it seemed like a shame to not just go ahead and eat one, risk of anal leakage and all. And you know the iconic image of Cookie Monster going into a nom-nom-nom frenzy with nothing left behind but a few crumbs in his fur? Well, let’s just say it was a massacre. And no cookies survived long enough to be photographed.
Imagine the best tasting Lemon Oreo you can. Now multiply by ten. How do I multiply a taste by a number, you ask? I have no clue either, but that’s what happens when you try these Thin Lemon Oreos.
They have all the chocolatey goodness you expect. The lemon filling strikes just the right balance with the cookie wafer, not overpowering it at all (I’m looking at you “fake grape“, I haven’t forgotten your crimes against humanity). The thin wafers succeed at being a little crispy without feeling like you’ve been tricked into eating something that really isn’t a cookie at all.
Will The Bearded Giant be buying more of these? NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM.
