Sometimes we choose our path, sometimes we are along for the ride. In the spring of 2015, I followed my heart and walked away from a salaried career to join my wife for a year in China. Before the trip I knew less than 50 words of Mandarin, and had only visited the country once before, for an eleven-day whirlwind honeymoon in 2013. During that trip we explored the South, including Shanghai, Wuhan, Hangzhou and Kunming. But now I am living far to the North, in Changchun. These are my stories.
At 6′ 5″ tall (196 cm), and sporting the sort of beard that gets odd looks even among hipsters, the Bearded Giant moniker seemed only appropriate. Plus this domain name was available. You’re just lucky someone else already registered goofylookingwhiteguyinchina.com or you might be stuck following that instead. Did I mention I have a tiny bit of smartass in me? Well, you would have figured it out sooner or later. Thanks for coming, and enjoy the ride.
